Green square for a climate-resilient city
We have been involved in the design of Experimenta Square in Heilbronn since 2019. The characteristic and centrally located open space on Kraneninsel in Heilbronn connects the two buildings of the experimenta knowledge and interactive exhibition.
Under the motto “Experimenta Square should become greener,” we have sustainably upgraded the site in 2024, thereby contributing to climate-friendly urban development. The paved area has been unsealed as far as possible. This has created space for green islands with a cooling forest character, which improve the quality of life and air. The species-rich plant oases delight visitors all year round with their varied and flower-filled appearance.
In the newly created climate forest, so-called “future trees” such as Himalayan birch and red maple now stand alongside the existing willows, as they are able to cope with the changing conditions caused by climate change. A colorful flowering meadow made from native seeds provides additional habitat and food for insects and helps to preserve biodiversity. Also good for the local urban climate: on hot days, a time-controlled misting system now provides noticeable cooling for the environment and passers-by.
