Awarded! In the realization competition for the new Kirbachtal fire station, we developed a climate-resilient planting concept for the outdoor spaces.

Our contribution to the realization competition for the new fire station in the Kirbachtal, Sachsenheim, was awarded 2nd prize. Our office was responsible for the planting design, aiming to create a landscape-integrated, robust and sustainable open space concept that responds to the character of the surrounding cultural landscape. The concept incorporates site-typical species of the Keuper landscape and strengthens the building’s integration into its landscape setting. Loosely arranged groups of English oak, field maple and whitebeam—well adapted to dry conditions—structure the open spaces and define the spatial scale. A layered, near-natural hedge structure of native shrubs creates diverse habitats with high ecological value. Open areas are designed as extensive meadows and fringe zones using native, regionally sourced seed mixes. In addition, part of the façade is enhanced with a trellis system supporting non-clinging climbing plants. The result is a low-maintenance, climate-resilient landscape concept that promotes biodiversity and harmoniously embeds the new building into its surroundings.
