Education Campus, Heilbronn

Green center for a vibrant campus

The Heilbronn Education Campus stands for modern, lifelong learning and provides space for teaching, research, and collaboration. On behalf of Koeber Landschaftsarchitektur, we managed construction for phases three and four of the Education Campus III project.
At the heart of the third development area lies a spacious plaza, framed by two university buildings and a library with a striking glass façade. The open space follows the landscape design concept of a “green center” in an elliptical form: Large-canopied pines and maples—planted in raised beds due to the underground parking garage—define the central green area. A cantilevered exposed concrete bench frames the lawn and, together with an integrated water feature with seven fine fountains, creates a striking focal point.
Construction took place alongside ongoing interior work, requiring precise site logistics to ensure continuous accessibility and seamless coordination among trades.
The fourth construction phase completes the ensemble with a dining hall surrounded by several campus buildings. The plaza is defined by two elliptical, gently sloping grass mounds, flanking the main entrance to the cafeteria. Large-format precast concrete slabs form the paving, with a dedicated bus shuttle lane seamlessly integrated into the layout. Pines once again provide green accents along the plaza’s edge. Two landscaped interior courtyards bring natural light into adjacent service areas while offering inviting spaces for students, staff, and visitors.
Together, these two phases have created a cohesive open space that defines the character of the Heilbronn Education Campus—functionally efficient, architecturally clear, and atmospherically vibrant.
